Reporting rodent activity helps Environmental Specialists track pest activity, identify trends, and respond effectively.
Please provide as much detail as possible — especially locations of burrows and food sources. All rodent sightings are investigated, and a staff member will contact you if additional information is needed.
Private property: The City of Newton does not provide pest control for private properties. To dispose of a dead rodent, wear gloves, double-bag it, place it in regular trash, and wash your hands. For prevention and control tips, visit Mass.gov Pest Control.
Neighboring properties: Rodent control is a shared responsibility. We encourage neighbors to work together to reduce food sources and shelter and implement pest control measures, as rodents move between properties.
Public property: To report a dead rodent on public property, submit a rodent report and call Customer Service at 617-796-1000 for DPW pickup.
