Requesting a discussion on creating a Newton City Hall Conservation Management Plan |
COUNCILORS DAHMUBED, BLOCK, GETZ, KALIS, ROCHE, LEARY, ALBRIGHT, KELLEY, AND GREENBERG requesting a discussion about creating a Conservation Management Plan for Newton City Hall so that the preservation and financial allocations necessary for the conservation of this significant historic and community asset can be better coordinated as part of a detailed and long-term strategy for the building. The purpose of such a plan is also to help streamline future work and ensure that ongoing maintenance and small projects at City Hall are completed as part of a thoughtful strategy for the building’s future, recognizing the unique challenges of the building’s terracotta structure, complex program, and historic significance. The discussion should include, but need not be limited to, an introduction to conservation management plans, examples of comparable plans, the process and timeline necessary for undertaking the completion of a Comprehensive Management Plan and for hiring consultant(s), if necessary, and potential funding sources.
